How to Delete Your Facebook Account

Step-by-Step Guide

If you've decided to take a break from Facebook or permanently delete your account, we'll guide you through the process. Facebook allows users to either temporarily deactivate or permanently delete accounts. While deactivation hides your profile and information until you reactivate, deletion permanently removes your data and settings.

Deactivating Your Account

1. Log in to your Facebook account.
2. Click the down arrow in the top right corner and select "Settings & Privacy." Then, click "Settings."
3. On the left side menu, click "Your Facebook Information." Then, select "Deactivation and Deletion." Finally, click "Deactivate Account" and confirm your choice.

Permanently Deleting Your Account

Caution: This action is irreversible.

1. Log in to your Facebook account.
2. Click the down arrow in the top right corner and select "Settings & Privacy." Then, click "Settings."
3. On the left side menu, click "Your Facebook Information." Then, select "Deactivation and Deletion." Finally, click "Permanently Delete Account" and confirm your decision.

What Happens When You Delete Your Account?

• Your profile and all its content, including posts, photos, videos, and comments, will be permanently deleted.
• Your name and profile picture will be removed from all comments and posts.
• You will be removed from all groups and pages.
• Your messages will be deleted, but the recipients will still have copies.
• Your data and settings will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Important Notes

• If you change your mind after deactivating your account, you can reactivate it within 30 days.
• After permanently deleting your account, you will have 30 days to download a copy of your data.
• Facebook may retain some of your data, such as IP addresses and browsing history, for security and legal purposes.
